Design Nation Award, New Designers 2022

Design Nation Award presented by Tristan Hunt, Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
From the Design Nation website: The Week Two Winner is Jon Christie. Jon’s award-winning second career as a furniture designer grew out of an earlier period as a dealer in classic 20th century pieces (and, we hear, also as a DJ – no wonder his motto is ‘Take Your Pleasure Seriously’). He studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, achieving a first degree in Interior & Environmental Design, followed by an MSc in Product Design. Today Jon’s Dundee studio has an international profile as he works between traditional and contemporary techniques and processes for his chairs, stools and tables, notable for their clean curving lines and everyday appeal.
'Your Move' Side table awarded the Design Guild Mark 2022

Design Guild Mark presented by Tom Lloyd (Co-founder & Director of Pearson Lloyd and Master of the Faculty of Designers) and Rodney McMahon chairman of Morgan furniture.
I am Hugely gratified to have been awarded a Design Guild Mark for the ‘Your Move’ side table.
The Design Guild Mark is awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry, in order to drive excellence and raise the profile of British design and innovation. The Mark recognises the highest standards in the design of furnishings in volume production by the finest designers working in Britain, or British designers working abroad.
The Design Guild Mark provides that reassurance that the product won’t disappoint.
The ‘Your Move’ side table
Each table is designed and made in Britain by some of our finest craftsmen. Their skill & attention to detail are evident in every piece. The ‘Your Move’ side table is hand turned over a 9-hour period. The design itself sits outside of fashion and trends. Its Inspiration and much of the credit goes to Nathaniel Cooke (London 1849) the designer of the ’Howard Staunton’ chess set a British design classic.
Rodney McMahon, chairman of the Design Guild Mark, commented:
“The variety and quality of designs applying for the Design Guild Mark always makes for an interesting judging day and this year we were pleased to meet many new designers and companies willing to put themselves forward. The insights of our judges and the challenging questions that they pose, ensure that the award of a Design Guild Mark is something to aspire to.”
